Jared Leto’s sci-fi film Tron: Ares has started gaining traction at the global box office. Although its opening wasn’t as strong as expected, the movie has been gradually improving day by day. Now, the film is inching closer to overtaking 2025’s horror hit I Know What You Did Last Summer.
Tron: Ares Breaks Records Despite A Slow Start
Tron: Ares collected around $3.6 million on its first Monday in North America. This marked a 54.3% drop from its Sunday numbers. The Disney film is currently running in 4,000 theatres across North America, yet it continues to hold audience interest.
So far, the movie’s domestic box office total stands at $36.8 million and its international earnings are $26.7 million. With this, the worldwide total of Tron: Ares has reached $63.5 million within just 4 days of release.
Just A Step Away From Surpassing ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’
This year’s slasher hit I Know What You Did Last Summer earned $64.7 million (₹540 crore) globally. Despite its modest $18 million (₹150 crore) budget, it was declared a superhit, grossing more than 44% above its break-even mark.
Now, Tron: Ares is just $2 million away from surpassing this horror hit, which will push Jared Leto’s film one rank higher on the list of 2025’s top-grossing movies.
Tron Franchise Still Popular After 40 Years
Interestingly, Tron: Ares has already outgrossed the original Tron movie, released over 40 years ago in 1982. The Tron franchise remains popular, largely because of Tron: Legacy (2010), and has since expanded into novels, comic books, video games, and even theme park attractions.
40th Highest-Grossing Film Of 2025
According to Box Office Mojo, Tron: Ares currently ranks as the 40th highest-grossing film of 2025. With steady growth and no major competitors in theatres, the movie is likely to enter the top 30 list soon.
